Let alone is used after a statement, usually a negative one, to indicate that the statement is even more true of the person, thing, or situation that you are going to mention next.

Let alone은 주로 부정적인 서술 뒤에 쓰이는 말로, 이후 언급할 어떤 사람, 물건 또는 상황에 관해서 더욱 더 맞는 말임을 나타낼 때 쓰인다.

used after a statement to emphasize that because the first thing is not true or possible, the next thing cannot be true or possible either.

첫번째 것이 사실이 아니거나 가능하지 않으면 다음에 나오는 것도 사실이 아닐 수 밖에 없고, 가능할 수가 없음을 강조하기 위해 쓰이는 표현.

[상황]

Aditi가 과거 Kavita와 함께 방세를 걱정하던 일을 떠올리며 형사에게 하는 말.

 

"She said the money she earned plus my salary working in a chemistry lab on campus would allow us to stay in the apartment for the summer and at least give us additional time to get things figured out.

Kavita는 그녀가 받는 월급과 제가 학교 실험실에서 받는 월급이랑 합치면 여름동안에는 아파트에서 살 수 있을 거라며, 최소한 그 기간 동안 앞으로 어떻게 해야할지 생각해 볼 시간을 벌 수 있다고 말했어요.

 

Though I liked the idea of living in the apartment and working, I thought it would be short-lived, because after paying our rent we had little left to live on, let alone to save for medical school tuition.

저는 일을 하면서 아파트에 살 수 있다는 생각이 마음에 들었지만, 오래가지는 못할 거라 생각했어요. 왜냐하면 방세를 내고 나면, 의과대학 등록금을 모으는 것은 고사하고 먹고 사는 돈조차 거의 남지 않을테니까요.
