머리나 몸 등 몸의 일부가 욱신거리거나 지끈거릴 때 쓰여요.

영영사전에 보면 if part of your body throbs, you feel a series of strong and painful beats there이라고 나와있어요. 몸의 일부가 throb한다는 건, 그곳에 강하고 고통스러운 beats를 느끼는 걸 말한다 -

​

beat는 명사로 고동, 맥박; (북 등의) 울림이라는 뜻이 있어요. 즉, 몸 어딘가가 욱신거리거나 지끈거리면 콕콕콕 계속 쑤시는 느낌이 있잖아요. 그걸 표현한 말이에요. 발목이 다쳐서 욱신거릴 때, 치통으로 욱신거릴 때 등 우리 몸 어딘가에서 이런 비슷한 통증이 있을 때 다 쓸 수 있는 표현이에요 :-)

어떤 것이 throb한다면 그것이 떨리거나 진동하면서 규칙적인 소리가 나는 걸 말해요.

예를 들면, 엔진 소리, 음악이 울려 퍼지는 소리, 새들의 노랫소리가 울려 퍼질 때 등에 쓰일 수 있다고 해요!

2가지 뜻 중에선 아무래도 1번, 욱신거리다/지끈거리다 뜻으로 throb를 자주 쓰게 될 것 같아요. 가끔, 머리가 지끈거릴 때 많잖아요! 어딘가 다치면 욱신거릴 때도 많구요.
